The Renault Duster has been a Hot Favourite Thanks to its Quirky Design and Overt practicality.
Renault India has started showcasing the Duster 4WD (AWD) to the media fraternity; the launch is slated for next month. The 4WD version will be available with the same 110PS 1.5 liter K9K DCi turbo diesel mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and features a new all-independent suspensions setup, hill-start assist, cruise control, shift-on-fly 4WD knob with Electronic-Torque-Management. Duster AWD also features new soft-touch dash and spruced-up instrumentation cluster along with touch screen infotainment system with Sat-Nav. Moreover, The Chennai-plant already manufactures the 4×4 variant and exports it to the United Kingdom as Dacia Duster.
It is expected to be launched in the Indian market sometime next month and will be priced significantly higher than the standard two-wheel drive models.
Renault Duster was built on the Logan’s platform and hence it measures a mere 4.31 meters in length and 1.81 meters in width. The best thing is the ground clearance of 305 mm which makes it compatible for both off-roading as well as city driving. It’s exterior appearance totally defines its raw nature and the supreme performance packed engines do complete justice to that image. The front portion having grille with chrome gives it a sturdy yet eye-catching appeal. A lot more attention has been turned towards the suspension system in order to enhance its sustainability on any terrain.

It comes with airy and comfortable interiors. Comfort levels are defined with well cushioned seats, good amount of headroom, legroom and shoulder-room for all the occupants. The vehicle has ample space at the rear, the boot space stands tall at 475-liters and provides enough room to carry more luggage while going on long journeys. The powerful air-conditioning system is an added element to provide better comfort. The SUV provides enough space to accommodate 5 passengers. With the back seat folded down, the space available goes up to massive 1,636 litres! Folding the front passenger seat down enables objects as long as 2.65 meters to be carried in the passenger compartment.
It comes with an integrated 2DIN Audio (CD/MP3/AM/FM) with USB, Aux-in & Bluetooth with 4 speakers. The music system is good and the high-end variants also come with the steering mounted controls. An advanced MEDIANAV system is bestowed in the new 85PS Adventure edition offering high end entertainment.
The Renault Duster AWD does not feature any major external changes save for a few AWD stickers and badges on the sides and rear of the car respectively. Renault has also fitted blacked out headlights which they say will only be offered with the AWD variant.
Other than those, there are no external changes to the quirky design of the Duster. The AWD will be offered in a new pure white colour that was not previously an option with the Duster range.Renault has strike gold everytime with its vehicles, especially the handling and braking section has won it several accolades and appreciation. This SUV is no exception, as it has been equipped with supreme braking system. An all new hydraulically operated diagonal split dual circuit braking system has been introduced in this compact SUV with disc brakes at the front and drum ones at the rear. It gets a monocoque chassis and receives an independent Macpherson strut with coil springs and anti-roll bar as front suspension. Rear suspension is a deflected torsion beam axle with coil-springs and anti-roll bar ; very similar to several hatchbacks which helps in reducing costs. The petrol variants of the compact SUV possess Hydraulic power assisted steering whereas an Electro Hydraulic power assisted steering is executed with the Diesel variants.
Price and competition
The Duster AWD variant will be priced Rs 50,000 to Rs 65,000 over the standard 2WD models and is likely to be launched next month. The Duster AWD is currently in a niche segment and does not have any competition apart from the Scorpio 4WD.
